How to bring dance close in the digital space? How to connect with each other through this art form in times of separation? As well as our own professional stage and community work, once a year Flora Fauna Project gives ROOM to the wider dance community. This is an artist led initiative. We believe it is important to create more independent spaces for sharing within the artform.
We had approximately 150 applications for ROOM 2022 from all over the world, giving us a glimpse of what dance artists are currently up to and how and where the movements are happening. The projects we received were made with a wide range of budgets, from high to home made, and everything in between.
All the artists that caught our attention highlight some important issues we face individually, locally and globally as a species. We were particularly drawn to work that dealt with our relationship to nature, ourselves and each other. In this digital dance platform you will find bodies, voices, highlighting: natural intelligence, democracy, oppression, corruption, city planning, justice, peace, forgiveness, the future, the past, history, identity, community. The list goes on… We took heart discovering that so many other artists out there are concerned and reaching out through these themes. ROOM 2022 is a soup made up of artists and their inquires. In these films we get a glimpse of what they are sensing and expressing through the dancing body.
